Mangaluru: St Aloysius Pre-University College inaugurated the Centre for Social Concern (CSC) in the presence of Padma Shri and Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee Harekala Hajabba.The centre has been established as a platform dedicated to nurturing social responsibility, compassion, leadership and community engagement among students. Through service-oriented initiatives, outreach programmes, and meaningful societal engagement, the centre seeks to inspire young people to become agents of positive social change.In his inaugural address, Rev Fr Clifford Sequeira, principal, emphasized the importance of collective growth and shared success. He noted that true achievement lies not merely in individual accomplishments, but in contributing to the well-being and progress of the community. Encouraging students to embrace the values of unity, cooperation, and empathy, he urged them to actively participate in building a compassionate, inclusive, and socially responsible society.Addressing the gathering, Shri Harekala Hajabba shared his inspiring life journey, reflecting on the hardships, challenges, and setbacks he encountered while pursuing his dream of establishing a school in his native village. He highlighted how perseverance, determination, and an unwavering commitment to his vision enabled him to transform that dream into reality. Emphasising the transformative power of education, he encouraged students to value the opportunities available to them, and to pursue their goals with resilience and dedication.Nearly 150 students, including members of the student council and student representatives of the CSC participated. Rev Fr Anthony Derrick was present.A pledge-taking ceremony was held on the occasion, during which the dignitaries, CSC staff members, and student representatives collectively reaffirmed their commitment to service, social responsibility, and community welfare. This was followed by the unveiling of the CSC logo and the launch of the symbolic initiative, ‘Walking an Extra Mile’.
