On cam, Rottweiler attacks 12-year-old boy while cycling

BENGALURU: A 12-year-old boy was hospitalised after a neighbour’s pet Rottweiler broke loose and attacked him in Maheshwarinagar, Mahadevapura. The incident, which took place around 2.30 pm on June 13, has triggered outrage among local residents after the dog’s owners allegedly abused and threatened the victim’s family to prevent them from approaching the police. The Mahadevapura police have registered a case against the dog’s owner, Shyam, and his wife, Vijayalakshmi.Leaped From the GateAccording to the police complaint filed by the boy’s father, an ex-serviceman, the minor was cycling on a residential street outside his house when a black Rottweiler suddenly bolted out of a neighbouring house through an unsecured gate. The dog allegedly lunged at the unsuspecting boy and bit him on his right hip and buttock before immediately running back into the house. The panicked child lost control of his bicycle and crashed onto the road, sustaining multiple cuts and bruises in the fall.Hearing the boy’s screams, local residents rushed to the spot and gathered in large numbers. The injured child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries. The situation reportedly turned tense when the victim’s parents confronted Shyam and Vijayalakshmi. They questioned why the dog had been left unrestrained, citing government guidelines that require large, high-risk breeds such as Rottweilers to be properly secured and, where applicable, muzzled within gated premises.Instead of expressing regret, the couple allegedly became aggressive. They reportedly shouted at the victim’s parents, claimed that the child had provoked the dog, and warned them of “dire consequences” if they filed a formal police complaint.“We have issued a notice to Shyam and Vijayalakshmi, directing them to appear before us. We have also written to GBA seeking its report on the guidelines issued to Rottweiler owners,” a senior police officer said.
