KRV activists attempt to stage a protest at Udyavar on Friday

Udupi: Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) made an attempt to hold a protest in Udyavar ahead of Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s visit to Kollur Sir Mookambika Temple on Friday.Even as CM Vijay has scheduled his first visit to Kollur temple after assuming charge as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, around 20 members of the vedike gathered on the road at Balaipade over the proposed Mekedatu Project in the morning. Sources said that the vedike members led by Praveen Shetty had planned to hold a protest to draw the attention of the Tamil Nadu CM on the Mekedatu issue.Even as nearly 20 activists of the vedike were making preparations to stage a protest, police rushed to the spot and took all of them into custody. Udupi police had taken all necessary security measures to ensure that no interruptions will take place during the visit of Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, who is a Z+ protectee.Besides Udupi police, about 40 personnel including a DIG and SP from Tamil Nadu police were also part of close protection of the CM in Udupi.The CM, who arrived at Mangaluru International Airport around 1.20pm proceeded to Kollur temple by road.
