Udupi: A 69-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a rashly driven car on National Highway 66 near Padubidri on Tuesday evening.The accident took place when Umanath Shenoy was standing near a bank at Tenka Ermal, according to the complaint filed by Prashanth K. Kotian, 43, a resident of Tenka Ermalu village in Kaup taluk. Shenoy was walking along the roadside from Udupi towards Padubidri when a car driven by Suresh allegedly drove in a rash and negligent manner hit him from behind. Due to the impact, Shenoy fell onto the road and sustained severe head injuries. The complainant, along with others present and the driver, took him in the same car to Udupi for treatment. However, doctors at the Udupi District Govt Hospital declared him dead. A case has been registered at Padubidri police station under sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS.
